Periodic table of Perl operators

I'm speechless. It's crazy/cool.

XMLHack is moribund

It's sad to know that this weblog on XML will no longer be updated, but Edd and Simon are going to keep the existing content online.

Where am I going to get a nice non-techie-friendly example of the plethora (some would say zoo) of XML applications?

I guess I'll just use this page's left-hand column for the time being.

Yeah, I know I'm about 10 days late for the scoop, but if you haven't heard about it before it's new to you.

W3C Position papers

Via Hixie

There's an upcoming workgroup on compound documents and web applications at the W3C. Almost everyone who is attending has produced a position paper.

Good reads.

Now if only some would kindly refrain from using PDF and use simple HTML.

It is after all a W3C thing.

Futurama panoramas with captions

Via kottke.
Ah..such genius that show was.
If only IT was coming back just like Family Guy (yet another work of art).

Attention to Detail

Snippets from Thomas Keller's new kitchen at Per Se in New York.

"Keller commissioned a special sink just to cook lobsters, fed by a hose streaming water at precisely 185 degrees. There is a room just for chocolate, maintained at a perfect 62 degrees."

Now that's my new definition of detail-oriented.

In lust with these cans

No, not THOSE kind of cans.
The kind you wear on/in your ears to listen to music.

Specifically the UE-10 Pros

What other company actually posts the frequency response of their head-phones?

Then again, with a EE background I know how useless comparing 2 freq. response graphs are w/o knowing the load conditions which created them. And frequency response doesn't necessarily translate into 'good vibrations'.

jonsing for 'da Minox

My latest "want one for no good reason" craving is for a MinoxTLX 11mm camera.

Maybe it's my inner 007 or the fact that it's a supreme example of incredible mechanical engineering.
Walter Zapp was a genius.

New Faces

Woah!
Zeldman redesign
I've always been a fan of green and never really cared for his old "parchment which looked like orange on non-Macs" background.
Major props, or as he would say "hat tip".
