Um, holsters are for guns
Wha?! Whomever thought this monstrosity might be a practical or even remotely fashionable wallet or fanny-pack replacement needs a frontal lobotomy or, perhaps, merely some electro-shock therapy.
Follow-Up: The company who makes this is named Urban Tool. Need I say more? thx Molly
Movie Tattle-taler
What a poor use of technology to replace civility and basic human communications.
Am I the only one thinking that this system is just ripe for hacking and abuse?
To make matters worse, the device is only given out to members of their Regal Crown Club Loyalty Program
Thumbs down Regal.
Best. Recruiting Ad. Ever.
Someone in HR at MeetUp is a genius. They figure that Google is a good contrasting company and they're using Google's own docs application to host this page.
Heroes for You
In the spirit of Len's Monster By Mail, comes Scott's Heroes for You. Here's a bit of background audio from Scott on the project.
Btw, Scott is the creator, producer, and host of Extra Life Radio.
Heroes season finale
I just have 2 questions.
- Where on earth was "The Haitian" in all of this and why couldn't his powers be used to suppress Peter's nuclear reaction long enough for them to get out of the city?
- Is The Haitian the bad man who "looks back" at Molly when she tries to "find" him with her power?
XML meta-data profiles
Niiice Tantek. Minimal. Backwards-compatible. Even extensible (to a limited extant). Good standards (and meta-standards) hackery. Dare I say POSH? Yes. I dare.
Sidequest schmide-quest
C'mon GMs and designers of MMORPGS and plain ole' RPGS, we get it. Please be more direct.
Mark's new opus
Mark Hurst's new book Bit Literacy echo's Negropronte's Being Digital with notes of David Allan's Getting Things Done.
It's more concrete than either and without the blue-blooded attitude of the former.
We're just Introverts, not aliens
Though this is sourced from a largely pablumistic rag, it does do quite the remarkable job of characterizing the Introvert.
In my case, both my parents are introverts and I grew up around a culture of craftsmanship, gastronomy, literature, and privacy. I can count on my hands the number of "social events" we have attended as a family over the years.

JPG Magazine dust up
Read Derek's post.
Read Heather's post.
No, I have no idea where one can read a post by Paul Cloutier on the matter and I seriously doubt any kind of public response will ever be posted.
Unfortunately, despite his words to the contrary, Derek IS airing dirty laundry in public. Paul deserves a platform and should likewise speak openly regarding his side of things.
Sadly, JPG will never be the same.
NoVA = U.S. Harry Potter fandom central
It seems that several towns in Northern Virginia are in the top-orders list for the final Harry Potter book (Go Fairfax!).
This shouldn't come as such a surprise given our region's demographics, excellent school system, high literacy, and love of "all things historic" and fanciful. The local NoVA Maryland Renaissance festival is the largest in the country.
On a personal note, when I last purchased a Harry Potter novel at my local bookstore, the checker quiped:
Oh, your kid will absolutely LOVE this book!
Um...yeah....my...kid. Thanks.
Diggn' the code
I'm not usually one for Podshow's products, but I dig Geoff Smith's Digg the Code song.
Who knew hexadecimals could be so bop-able?
I'm surprised the brilliant Jonathan Coulton hasn't gotten in on the fun yet.
Alternative creator compensation
A novel take [pdf] on how to compensate digital content creators for their efforts.
I haven't finished reading it yet and already it's clear that it does need some tweaking to allow for variable licensing and partnerships.
Still, something has to be done to instigate a more rational economic model in digitally mediated society with a highly bit-literate populace. Clearly, the status quo isn't working very well.
