Airwolf and other musings by Ernie Cline
He had me at the splash screen and the visual riffs off of old Atari cartridges. Be sure and check out his spoken word rants. He lives in one of the epicenters of cool--Austin, TX too. Shocker.
Mr. Buffett stumping
Pretty standard Buffett-isms, with some insights into the Long Term Capital fiasco and lack of taste-memory in colas. Still, you can't go wrong listening to this man.
Video-Chat Train wreck
The Web 2.0 crew is well represented here (even a cameo of David Randolph from Systm) for this massive train wreck of a demo of Operator 11. If you have ~40 minutes to kill, um...no...nevermind don't even bother.
Instant Domain Search
Via Kevin's Tumblr (dude, you finally 'fixed' your blog):
This handy tool does dns searches in near real-time thanks to a little Ajax code and a generously-sized, but timely, cache.
I haven't run across such a convenient web-based appless-app since ipchicken.
Screwed up NoVa. School's "no touching" policy
Via Digg:
Apparently, this Northern Virginia school principal has lost her mind.
Please somebody get this woman some career counseling and have her removed from any kind of authority within the Fairfax County School system immediately. If you want to deal in "black and white" issues, don't become a school principal.
Touching, rough-housing, horse-play, tag , and even fighting are part-and-parcel of "growing up" and learning to deal, negotiate, punish, reward, and "get along" other members of your peer group. Physical play and touching have been shown to be essential for proper motor skill and social development for both boys and girls--especially for youngsters.
Hmmm...so you're going to prevent "making out" too huh?! Good luck with that one.
I'm taking this quite personally since I was a student in the Fairfax County public school system from K-12 and worked for the school system as a high school student. My mother was also a Fairfax County public school teacher as well as an office administrator for several years. She would be absolutely livid at this idiotic and educationally retarded policy.
Mark Pilgrim
Nice to see that Mark is still pithy as ever. Word.
He's not the only one more excited about the impending release of Ubuntu ultra-orthodox edition (paragraph #3) than the iPhone.
Robert Rodriguez's cooking show
Apparently these were ripped off of the DVDs, but having talked with him briefly at SXSW07, I have little doubt he probably did the re-encoding, framing, and uploading himself.
A triple-shot of videos
Good things come in 3's :
- Linus speaks on GIT. His replacement for CVS.
- Aza speaks on interfaces.
- Richard Dawkins et. al speak to atheism and religion
